Resonance Asset Management successfully exits Dutch biomethane production asset, progressing the exit of its Industrial Water Infrastructure Fund
On the 28th of June 2024, Resonance Asset Management through Resonance Industrial Water Infrastructure Limited (“RIWI”) successfully exited its investment in “Project Wijster”. The exit was part of a deal by Vauban Infrastructure Partners who closed the acquisition of a majority stake in the Wijster companies, from Green Create (the owner and operator).
The Wijster plant, situated in the Netherlands, ranks among Europe’s largest biomethane production facilities, with an installed capacity of 237 GWh/year for injection into the Dutch grid. Operational since 2022, the facility sources its feedstock through long-term contracts with over 100 local farmers. The site is set to undergo two planned expansions, which will increase its total capacity to approximately 554 GWh, demonstrating an increasing contribution to renewable energy production.
The plant uses an anaerobic digestion process to process poultry converting it into high-quality biomethane at scale. The process curtails significant volumes of greenhouse gas emissions compared to other feedstock types, generating a negative carbon intensity of c.100kg CO2/GJ.
Resonance has been invested since the early stages of the projects development and financed it through construction. Now the plant is fully operational, this deal provided an opportunity to exit the investment.
